23 Jan Release-Recap – Kith x adidas Consortium Tubular Doom
This morning we went to Kith’s Manhattan at Bleecker Street to check the highly anticipated collab between Kith and adidas Consortium on the brandnew Tubular Doom silhouette. As you may have noticed a huge winter snowstorm/blizzard hit the East Coast during the night and so the release was quite an adventure. After the shoe was sold out online within minutes during the mindnight release the first sneakerheads came to the store as early as 5 AM. This is really crazy considering this severe weather conditions. At 11 AM the collab was also released in small sizes at Kith’s recently opened Women’s store across the street.
Unfortunately there were more people waiting than shoes available instore. For the release the guys at Kith made an awesome instore installation. Our pics show the presentation of the socklike Tubular Dooms at their Bleecker location. The collab kicks off this year’s adidas Consortium World Tour, which will include 12 collabs from 12 different sneaker stores across the globe (and of 12 different adidas shoes, for example Solebox should be coming out in March with an limited Ultra Boost). So you can expect more sneaker grandezza in the coming months. The Tubular Doom is a new and quite important release for adidas, clearly crossing the bridge to the fashion community and their own Y-3 label.
When we first saw the samples during last year’s Berlin fashion week, we already had the feeling that this release could be a big success. And it seems to turn out as expected. Also the first inline releases in basic colorways received a lot of interest with many sizes already sold out. It should not suprise anyone that the Ronnie Fieg version is now sold out too. Besides a very comfy, flexible Primeknit upper Ronnie’s slick design includes an eyecatching wool cage and the Kith tagline „Just Us“ around the heels. More than just a nice extra are the Primkenit Stance Crew socks with reflective Three Stripes, which were sold separately (only availble at Kith).
Big thanks to Lucas and the whole Kith crew for giving us the opportunity to taking some pics of the instore release (and for giving us shelter). In case you weren’t able to pick up a pair in your size, we have good news: The global release of the Kith x adidas Consortium Tubular Doom is just around the corner arriving at Consortium stores next saturday.
